The Development Engagement Lab will present its latest research on shifts in public engagement with global poverty since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. How have priorities shifted? What messages now resonate with the public, and how connected do they feel with global anti-poverty initiatives?

Working independently of the European Commission's Scientific Advice Mechanism, a high-level expert panel of the UN's Committee on Food Security has recently delivered evidence-based policy advice on how to transition to a more sustainable food system, and thus work towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Although the SAM focuses on the EU and the UN covers the whole globe, the conclusions reached and the recommendations provided are unequivocal: a transformation of our food system is necessary, and there is a broad scientific consensus on how to achieve this.
The second international Drivers for Wood Construction event including Rothoschool on tour will be held in Joensuu 21.-22.10.2020. The seminar will focus on the most recent challenges of the construction industry such as future building solutions, low carbon construction, technical and structural details of timber buildings, and finally, on the building codes in respect of fire and BIM.

Food Systems Fit for Purpose: Bold Leadership to Prioritize Human, Animal, and Ecological Health.
The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will organize a High-Level Virtual Special Event on Food Security and Nutrition, 13 - 15 October 2020. The session, in lieu of CFS 47 which has been rescheduled to 8 - 12 February 2021 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, will seek to keep food security and nutrition front and centre on the global sustainable development agenda.
How European cities can implement the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs? What are the challenges in the effective implementation and monitoring of the SDGs? During the workshop, experts, representatives of local governments, and researchers will discuss different European experiences and tools for the localisation of the SDGs, such as the European Handbook for SDG Voluntary Local Review, published by the Joint Research Centre with the support of DG REGIO, and the H2020 +CityxChange project.
