Integration of migrants

What shapes solidarity in the EU?

This report finds that several factors play a role in determining people’s willingness to show solidarity towards migrants in need of international protection. These include leadership legitimacy, institutional support and perceptions of fairness in several aspects of the refugee reception process. The report highlights that fighting disinformation and efficient communication are key for sustaining solidarity with displaced people.

Sustainable urban development strategies could foster the integration of migrants

On 1 January 2020, 23 million EU inhabitants were non-EU citizens. Migrants play a key role in European society but they often struggle to match EU citizens’ levels of employment, education and social inclusion. A JRC exploratory research project examined whether the EU Cohesion Policy, which from a thematic viewpoint is not focused on migrants, could contribute to the integration and inclusion of international migrants in the EU.
