European Bioeconomy University brings together bioeconomy studies from different sectors

The European Bioeconomy University (EBU) seeks to develop a mechanism to enhance bioeconomy students’ cross-sectoral mindset. Thanks to a shared platform for online learning and study tours, students will be able to include in their studies courses offered by all EBU member universities. This line of collaboration seeks to improve students’ cross-sectoral understanding of research subjects and business activities. Successful completion of the study module will be recognised with a certificate issued by the EBU.

Developing a bioeconomy in rural Europe

Once the crops are planted, grown and harvested, many agricultural facilities sit unused. But converting them into bioproduction plants could extend their activity year-round - meaning more money for farmers and agriculture-based industries.

14th Joint Call for Research and Development Proposals of the ERA-NET Bioenergy: "Development and improvement of biomass conversion technologies for the provisioning of heat for industrial processes"

This call aims to support innovative, collaborative pan-European, R&D&I projects, which should contribute to safe, environmentally friendly, reliable and economical bioenergy production. The focus is on technology readiness levels 2-7 (at the end of the funded project). The projects should address new implementation pathways supporting decarbonisation of industry and demonstration of best practice examples. Furthermore, the linkage to circular economy especially in industry sectors has to be stressed more, e.g. by using biomass based waste as fuel or feedstock.

Finding the Right Balance within the Bioeconomy

The BioMonitor project has published a series of scientific papers that analyses Europe’s bioeconomy strategy in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and provide different policy scenarios in 30 years’ time.
