On-line workshop How to improve knowledge on mycotoxins and food security. A Europe-Africa dialogue

Mycotoxin contamination is receiving considerable attention for several reasons. First and foremost, mycotoxins have a major impact on human and animal health, and this is particularly true in a number of African countries where awareness and control measures are limited or absent. Economically speaking, mycotoxin contamination impacts on food availability (quantities of food of appropriate quality) and may directly result in hunger and malnutrition of the population. Given stricter food safety regulations with regard to mycotoxin standards in developed countries, increased efforts in prevention of mycotoxins can benefit the health of the domestic population whilst also increasing export possibilities. Concerning the knowledge base, the necessary information with regard to public health significance, occurrence, prevention and control of mycotoxins is often missing. In addition, better mycotoxin contamination-related datab

Seminar: Agroecology and the reconstruction of a post-COVID-19 agriculture

“The COVID-19 crisis has created a moment where existing calls for agroecology acquire new relevance. Agroecology provides a path to reconstruct a post-COVID-19 agriculture, one that is able to avoid widespread disruptions of food supplies in the future by territorializing food production and consumption. There are five main areas in which agroecology can point the way to a new post-COVID-19 agriculture: overcoming the pesticide treadmill, enriching nature’s matrix, revitalizing small farms, creating alternative animal production systems and enhancing urban agriculture.”

The contribution of renewable fuels to road transport decarbonisation - webinar

A team of experts has assessed the transport sector and its projected development up to 2030 and 2050 for a number of countries. The objective of the assessment was to quantify the role that renewable transport fuels play in decarbonising the road transport sector, and to provide insights to policy makers on how individual countries differ from one another, which options for decarbonisation they have, and best practice examples for successful policies. This webinar will present the main conclusions and recommendations of this work.

Advocating for transformational change for agro-food systems

The need for transformational change in global agri-food systems is now widely acknowledged. The concept of agroecology is more and more dominating the discourse about the future of agriculture. At the same time the steady growth of the organic market has a strong impact on the global development of standards and regulatory requirements. Alternative terms, such as regenerative agriculture, ecological organic agriculture and others approaches such as Zero Budget Natural Farming are being scaled-up significantly. These concepts have involved many actors who share the desire to “scale-up” transformational change initiatives to bring about resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems.

Seventh tap partners assembly 16-20 november 2020

The Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) is a G20 initiative, officially launched in 2012, with a mandate to work towards bridging the capacity gap for agricultural innovation in the tropics. Its objective is to increase the coherence and effectiveness of capacity development interventions for agricultural innovation systems, so they can lead to sustainable change and impact at scale. TAP is supported by the European Union (EU) and its Secretariat is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
