INNOVA MEASURE IV online Workshop

This month Valentina Montalto completes four years at the JRC, although she might have expected to reach the anniversary under slightly different circumstances.

The COIN Open Days are one-day/half-day workshops that bring together researchers and policy analysts from European Union institutions, international organisations, think tanks and the academia with scientists of the European Commission’s Competence Centre on Composite Indicators and Scoreboards (COIN).

The aim of our Seminar Series is to bring together international experts and scientists to share their knowledge on the development, study, and use of Composite Indicators and Scoreboards. Indices aggregate multi-dimensional concepts into a simplified one.

The UN Climate Change Conference COP25 will take place from 2 to 13 December 2019 at IFEMA, Feria de Madrid, in Spain. As in previous editions of COP, the EU Pavilion will host a broad set of side events to stimulate debate on key thematic areas by engaging observers and facilitating dialogue with party delegates and other participants.

On November 4-8, as part of the JRC Week on Composite Indicators and Scoreboards, the JRC launched the COIN Tool, an Excel-based software tool to help develop and analyse composite indicators and scoreboards.

On November 4-8, the JRC Week on Composite Indicators and Scoreboards will bring together academics, policy makers, data and policy analysts with a common interest in multidimensional indicator frameworks to inform policy making.

Today, the European Commission released the second edition of its Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor, a tool designed to benchmark and boost the creative and cultural potential of European cities, which is vital to driving economic growth and social cohesion.

With the growing momentum towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and just ahead of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York, two international indexes measuring progress on sustainable development issues were launched this month: the Sustainable Development Goals Index and Dashboards (SDG Index) and the EM2030 Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index (SDG Gender Index).

Increasing women’s voice and participation in politics has clear positive impacts on the quality of governance, transparency and accountability. This is one of the conclusions of a JRC study analysing women's disadvantage and achievements in different EU regions, published at the occasion of International Women's Day on 8 March 2019.

The Cultural Gems app is a spinoff of the Joint Research Centre's Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor, which contains comparative information on the creative and cultural performance and assets of 168 cities in 30 countries across Europe.

The training (05-07 Nov) offers lessons learnt from the JRC assessments of more than 100 well-known composite indicators and scoreboards. The community of practice meeting (08-09 Nov) offers a unique opportunity for networking and practical exchange of experiences across a wide range of key policy areas that are monitored through composite indicators and scoreboards.

The European Commission has presented the ASEM Sustainable Connectivity Portal – an online tool offering a wealth of data on the political, economic and social relationship between the two continents.
