Upon his departure, Commissioner Piebalgs highlighted what an honour it had been to work on promoting sustainable development and on fighting poverty all over the globe.

The EU has today announced a new project to promote and protect the rights of migrants moving between developing countries, worth over €10 million. EU supports African Union mission to fight Ebola

The European Commission will provide €5 million to the newly established mission of the African Union (AU) "Support to Ebola Outbreak in West-Africa" (ASEOWA) that will join the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the disease in the region, as announced at an AU Partner Group's meeting on Ebola in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).

EU announces €140 million package in response to Ebola outbreak

The European Commission announces today €140 million of funding for the countries affected by the Ebola virus in West Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria.
The new package will help those countries bolster their health services (for example through reinforcing treatment centres or support for health workers), both during the crisis and in the recovery phase.
