EU boosts its cooperation on sustainable energy with developing countries

EU's commitment to helping developing countries provide access to sustainable energy for all is stronger than ever. The European Union will tomorrow co-sign joint declarations in New York to reinforce energy cooperation with five African countries: Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Togo and Rwanda.

High level EU coordination meeting on Ebola

Today, a high-level meeting to coordinate further steps in a European wide response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa has taken place in Brussels. Development Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, Health Commissioner, Tonio Borg, and Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva, have represented the European Institutions.

EU supports African Union mission to fight Ebola

The European Commission will provide €5 million to the newly established mission of the African Union (AU) "Support to Ebola Outbreak in West-Africa" (ASEOWA) that will join the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the disease in the region, as announced at an AU Partner Group's meeting on Ebola in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).

EU announces €140 million package in response to Ebola outbreak

The European Commission announces today €140 million of funding for the countries affected by the Ebola virus in West Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria.
The new package will help those countries bolster their health services (for example through reinforcing treatment centres or support for health workers), both during the crisis and in the recovery phase.
