In 2020, 5% of the resident population in European countries was estimated to have had a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. The new section presents estimates for 2020 by country, as one of the outcomes of the EUROCARE-6 study.
What's cancer prevalence? It considers everyone diagnosed, regardless of treatment status or time since diagnosis.

One of the flagship initiatives of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan is to ‘Eliminate cancers caused by Human papillomavirus’. It is estimated that in 2022, over 28,000 cervical cancer cases were diagnosed in the EU27 and over 17,000 of women died from cervical cancer (ECIS 2022).

This research, co-authored by the JRC, analyses the environmental trade-offs of 98 emerging bio-based materials, and estimates that their greenhouse gas life cycle emissions are on average 45% lower compared to their fossil counterparts. The large variation between individual products (from 19% for bioadhesives to 73% for biorefinery products) leads to conclude that the environmental sustainability of bio-based products should be evaluated on an individual product basis and that more radical product developments are required to reach climate-neutral targets.

On 12-13 June 2024, the MYRIAD-EU Horizon project will organise the 3rd International Conference : Natural Hazards and Risks in a Changing World in Amsterdam. The call for abstracts is currently open until 31 January 2024. DG ECHO is intending to provide travel support to a limited number of civil protection-oriented PhD students and early career researchers from the UCPM Member/Participating States who submit an abstract, apply for travel support, and will present their findings at the conference.
