Commissioner Piebalgs at the 15th Africa-EU Ministerial Political Dialogue meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi

Today, EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs is leading the EU Delegation at the 15th Africa-EU Ministerial Political Dialogue meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The Ministerial meeting will be the occasion for Africa and EU to finalize the preparation of the Africa-EU Summit due to take place from 29th to 31st November in Libya. In parallel, Commissioner Piebalgs will meet with Malawi Minister of Finance Ken Kandodo to sign a €19 million financing agreement for the country. This is part of EU's support to Africa to face the impact of the economic crisis ("V-Flex" instrument). This allocation will enable the Malawi government to implement macroeconomic and fiscal policies that will further help reduce the country's economic and social vulnerability in the wake of the recent global economic downturn.
