Music against Poverty contest: announcement of the winners

More than 200 submissions have been received from all EU member states for the 2nd edition of the Music against Poverty contest. The winners have been announced earlier this week and will get a professional studio recording of their song and the opportunity to perform during the European Development Days in Brussels.

Antonia and Mareike from Küllstedt in Germany are the winners of the Prize of the Jury with their song "A story of ignorance". Their message is that that you can only fight poverty if you stop looking away from the problems of our world. Winner of the Prize of the Internet voters with more than 4.000 votes are Marcin and Mariusz from Poland who promoted their song "Together" in local media of their region of Elblag in Northern Poland.

Launched in July, the contest calls on young Europeans to share their message on fighting poverty and development. Through networking sites and music festivals, youngsters between 15 and 25 were invited to submit a song related to fighting poverty on the Internet and support “their” Millennium Development Goal. The music contest is part of the "I fight poverty campaign" where teenagers are introduced to what the EU does in the field of development cooperation with a particular focus on the Millennium Development Goals.
