This European Conference officially launches the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs by adopting a shared roadmap and announcing stakeholder pledges to joint action.
During the high-level conference in Brussels on 'Anticipating Skills needs at EU Level' the European Commission will officially launch the first edition of the EU Skills Panorama.
An agenda for new skills and jobs, as one of the flagship initiatives of the new Europe 2020 strategy, aims at modernising labour markets and empowering people by developing their skills throughout the lifecycle. One of the key tasks for the future is to increase labour market participation and ensure better matching between demand and supply of skills.
Organised under the Spanish EU Presidency, the conference will explore how to concretely advance a comprehensive skills and jobs agenda in the framework of the Europe 2020 Strategy, focusing both on skills upgrading in line with future needs, and the better matching of skills and jobs.
New Skills for New Jobs' is an initiative launched by the European Commission in December 2008 to better anticipate, upgrade and match skills needs by building stronger bridges between the world of education and training and the world of work.
The European Commission in cooperation with the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Committee of the Regions is organising on 7 and 8 December 2009 a restructuring forum dedicated to Sectors' New Skills for New Jobs.
The aim of the conference is to address the role of the European Public Employment Service in the new labour market landscape, how to anticipate skills needs and how to improve the matching process.
