There are more than 23 million unemployed in Europe today, around 50% of them have been so for more than 12 months – the so-called 'long-term unemployed'. This is more than 12 million people in the EU. The European Commission proposes that Member States provide better support to the long-term unemployed and facilitate their return to work.
