Earlier in her career, Irish Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty was in fact self-employed. Because of her background, Minister Doherty was very keen to equalise the social protection system in her country and remains a strong supporter of the Council Recommendation on access to social protection for workers and the self-employed.
