Vítor Gaspar

Special Adviser, Banco de Portugal.

Vítor Gaspar has been Special Adviser at Banco de Portugal since February 2010.

Before joining the bank, he was Head of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers (BEPA)of the European Commission from 2007 to 2010. Before that, between 1998 and 2004 he was Director-General for Research at the European Central Bank. He previously served at Banco de Portugal as Director of Economic Studies, and at the Portuguese Ministry of Finance.

He has authored and edited several books, such as The Euro. The First Decade (with Marco Buti, Servaas Deroose and João Nogueira Martins), and published numerous articles in scientific journals such as the European Economic Review, the Journal of the European Economic Association, Public Choice and Macroeconomic Dynamics.
