Erik Nielsen

Chief European Economist and Managing Director, Goldman Sachs.

Erik Nielsen is Goldman Sachs’s Chief European Economist and Managing Director responsible for the economic research teams for Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1996 as a senior economist for Russia. He transferred to London in 1997, to build the economic research team for the New Markets in the European time-zone and in 2005, took over responsibilities for Western Europe as well. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Nielsen worked in Washington, DC, for 10 years, first as an economist at he IMF's European Department and later for the World Bank as a senior economist for Russia and in other roles.

Before leaving his native Denmark, Mr. Nielsen worked as an economist at the Central Bank and taught at the Copenhagen School of Economics and Business Administration. He graduated in economics from the University of Copenhagen in 1981.
