IMI is now ensuring the proper implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), providing multilingual online information exchange functions for European Institutions and National Data Protection Supervisory authorities.
The use of IMI is steadily increasing: by December 2017, the total number of information exchanges sent through IMI had exceeded 100,000. In 2017 alone nearly 34,000 requests were sent, involving more than 8,200 registered authorities.

The Commission conducted a survey to assess users’ experience with IMI in terms of user-friendliness, functions and benefits. The results of the survey have now been published.
From now on public authorities can use IMI to check information and documentation provided by procurement companies from other European countries.
To complete the report on IMI, two new quality indicators have been introduced in the 07/2014 edition of the Single Market Scoreboard.
On 23 January 2014 we sent out the latest IMI newsletter which gives an update on all the progress made over the course of 2013.
On 15 November 2013, IMI has been opened for administrative cooperation under the e-commerce directive.
With today's launch of the online only Single Market Scoreboard, a more comprehensive and user-friendly reporting system has been put in place.
Only registered users can access the Internal Market Information System (IMI).

To do so, you first need to register.
Your registration request has to be approved by a national IMI coordinator. Only competent authorities can request registration in IMI.
