2013 is the European Year of Citizens, an opportunity to encourage the people of Europe to play a more active role in the design and implementation of the policies that affect us all. The European Citizens’ Initiative is one potential tool for achieving these goals, as Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič told delegates at the seminar organised by the European Ombudsman on Tuesday 23 April.
Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič welcomed on Monday 22 April the President of the German Constitutional Court, Andreas Voßkuhle, as well as its Vice-President Kirchhoff, and judges Eichberger and Huber.

European citizens from the length and breadth of the EU have taken the opportunity to set the EU policy agenda over the last twelve months by signing one of the 14 European Citizens' Initiatives registered since the launch of the ECI on 1 April 2012.
