A two-day trip to Sweden was the chance for Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič to praise Swedish MPs for their commitment to playing a part in EU decision-making and to urge young Swedish voters to exercise their democrat rights in next May's European elections.
When more than 1.6 million EU citizens call on the European Commission to take action to protect the right to water, it is important to respond positively – and that is exactly what the Commission did on 19 March with the adoption of its communication on the first successful European Citizen's Initiative, Right2Water.
Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič marked International Women's Day by highlighting the European Commission’s achievements in equal opportunities at a conference on 7 March. The targets he set in 2010 for the three areas where women were under-represented - 25% for senior management, 30% for middle management and 43% for non-management administrator posts - have already been met, 11 months ahead of schedule.
