Vice President Maroš Šefčovič urges national parliaments to play their full role in EU policy-making

Considerable progress has been made in putting in place the new structures introduced by the Lisbon Treaty, Maroš Šefčovič, Commission Vice-President for Inter-institutional relations and Administration, told today's meeting of the Presidents of COSAC, the conference of national parliaments' European Affairs committees (see speech). Mr Šefčovič drew attention to the outline agreement reached last week on a revised Framework Agreement between the Commission and the European Parliament. "The revision of the FA should be seen as a means to implement these new Treaty provisions and, at the same time, to promote efficient and productive collaboration between the institutions," he said. The Vice-President also welcomed the political agreement on the European External Action Service, which "should mean that we will have the full range of structures for the EU's external action in place by the end of the year".
