Father helps boost opportunities for individuals with special needs
Niels Groeneweg is the father of four sons. Two have autism. They can require a lot of attention, and at one point Niels found himself struggling to balance his work with the needs of his family. As a result, he began to look for options that would better fit in around his sons’ needs.

Commissioner Schmit visits ESF-funded projects in Romania supporting refugees from Ukraine
European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit has visited a Concordia Vocational School, co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). A humanitarian non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Concordia has 30 years of history supporting children, young people and families in need to move toward a more independent life, and is currently supporting refugees fleeing from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine: making it easier and quicker for Member States to use cohesion funding to support immediate needs of refugees
To further support Member States welcoming and accommodating refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine, the Commission has proposed a simplified financing procedure under 2014-2020 cohesion policy to tackle the additional costs involved.
