This week, the international day against homophobia and transphobia is observed all over the world. In Europe, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people are still discriminated against and become victims of violence. In a speech at ILGA-Europe, the international lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex association in Brussels, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström underlined the need for vigilance in fighting homophobia.
1 april 2011:
Today, 1 April, Commissioner Cecilia Malmström announces an award of 100 000 euro to the police officer who makes most progress in fighting eurocrimes, as defined in Article 83(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. These crimes are: terrorism, trafficking in human beings, sexual exploitation of women and children, illicit drug trafficking, illicit arms trafficking, money laundering, corruption, counterfeiting of means of payment, computer crime and organised crime.
