Upgrade to section of Poland’s S8 express road helps to overcome transport bottlenecks

An EU-funded project is upgrading a 29.65 km section of road that runs through the Podlaskie region to expressway status. By adding new lanes, more exits and an array of roadside services, the upgrade will better connect the region to the rest of Poland and beyond, and serve as the foundation for a new regional corridor that aims to attract new businesses, industry and jobs.

Austrian hotel’s expansion boosts wellness, business visitors

Support from the European Regional Development Fund has allowed Hotel Lebensquell, a health resort in Bad Zell in Austria’s Oberösterreich region, to expand and improve its facilities to meet the ever-growing needs of its varied clientele. The result is a significant increase in business and higher customer satisfaction. And as well as creating new jobs, the hotel’s success has had positive effects on the regional economy.

DANUBEPARKSCONNECTED: Danube habitat corridors safeguard biodiversity

The Danube River is a lifeline for biodiversity and home to an incredible variety of plant and animal species – around 5 000 animal species in total. Like other regions in Europe, the fragmentation of its ecosystems has become a major threat to biodiversity. The EU-funded DANUBEparksCONNECTED project aimed to counteract this decline by creating the Danube Habitat Corridor and strengthening collaboration between organisations that manage protected areas along the river in nine Danube countries.
