Common indicator 12: Capacity of new or modernised health care facilities

The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed structural weaknesses in health systems across the EU, underlining the need to strengthen the capacity, quality and resilience of health systems. Common indicator 12 captures the annual capacity of new or modernised health care facilities supported by the RRF. It does so by displaying the yearly maximum number of patients who can be treated in hospitals, clinics, outpatient care centres, or specialised care centres.

The indicator contributes to pillar 4 (social and territorial cohesion) and pillar 5 (health, and economic, social and institutional resilience).

Evolution of Capacity of new or modernised health care facilities

This graph shows the capacity of new or modernised health care facilities. Capacity means the maximum number of persons that can use or be served by a facility per year. All new facilities built or existing facilities modernised thanks to the RRF are included in this indicator. This indicator is a stock indicator, which means that numbers are added cumulatively, and its values can only increase over time.
