4th Hellenic Forum for Science, Technology & Innovation

The Hellenic Forum is being organized for the 4th year running by the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” and is under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event envisages opportunities for the development of links and affiliations between members of the research community and industry as well as distinguished scientists living and working abroad.

 
Laying the ground for €1 bn quantum technology initiative – chair of expert group announced

Renowned German physicist, Professor Jürgen Mlynek, will chair the expert group overseeing the preparatory phase for the launch of a €1 bn quantum technology flagship. In a recent joint blog post, Dutch Minister Henk Kamp and Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger thanked Professor Mlynek for leading the group which will deliver a strategic research agenda, an implementation model and a governance model for the future flagship. Other members of the expert group will be announced in the coming weeks.

2016 International Summer School on HPC Challenges in Computational Sciences

The 7th edition of the High Performance Computing Summer School, partly sponsored by the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE), offers an instruction on a variety of topics, such as HPC challenges by discipline (e.g, earth, life and materials sciences, physics), HPC Programming Proficiencies, algorithmic approaches and numerical libraries, and many others. Interested students should apply by February 15th, 2016.

Final Conference and Workshop of the Silver project

The Conference will share the SILVER experience with Pre-Commercial Procurement as an innovative tool for bringing new care technologies to the market. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from both procurers and contractors involved in the project’s Pre-Commercial Procurement exercise. Also, the successful robotic solution – the Lean Elderly Assistant (LEA) – will be presented by its designers, Robot Care Systems. Silver is co-funded by the Seventh Framework Programme for research.

 
The MUSES software: greater engagement of the user in the security of corporate information systems

The user is perceived as the weakest link in IT security. More often than not risky user behaviour finds its roots in simple ignorance. The necessity to proactively engage the user on IT security has become acute with recent developments in the corporate world, such as the introduction of mobile technologies or the Bring Your Own Device trend. Project MUSES has developed the prototype of a software that provides security guidance to the user by offering real-time, context-based recommendations.

 
EMiT 2016: EMerging Technology Conference

The event is hosted by Mont-Blanc project, which explores energy efficiency in High Performance Computing. It brings together experts from all areas of computing to examine how to best take advantage of the changing landscape of computer hardware and overcome research barriers for fields such as computational fluid dynamics, computational mechanics, life sciences, energy efficiency and financial modelling.

 
Amputees to benefit from advanced prosthetics control

A breakthrough in prosthetics technology by EU-funded researchers will provide amputees with clinically and commercially viable artificial limbs offering intuitive, proportional and simultaneous control of hand, wrist and elbow movements in the near future.
