Horizon Impact Award 2020: 10 finalists short-listed

The European Commission has announced the 10 projects to reach the final stage of the second edition of Horizon Impact Award – a prize dedicated to EU-funded projects whose results have created societal impact across Europe and beyond. The prize acknowledges and rewards the most influential and impactful project results under Horizon 2020, the EU research and innovation programme, and its predecessor, the 7th Framework programme (FP7, 2007-2013).

 
New factsheet on Citizen Science

Find out how citizen science can improve research and its outcomes, reinforce societal trust in science and how the ‘Science with and for Society programme’ plays a leading role within Horizon 2020 in supporting innovative citizen science projects. This factsheet has been produced to inform policy makers during the Competitiveness Council meeting on 21 July 2020 and contains 10 inspiring project examples that show how citizen science benefits our society.

 
Swafs achievements and recommendations report published

Inclusiveness underpins the funding programme of Science with and for Society (Swafs) in Horizon 2020. The objective of this report is to convey the achievements of SwafS to serve as input for DG Research and Innovation to integrate science, society and citizens in Horizon Europe, both across the future framework programme and in the first Work programmes falling under the 'Strengthening the European Research Area' part.

Research and Innovation Excellence through gender equality: New pathways and challenges - Finnish presidency conference

The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, with support from the European Commission through Horizon 2020, is organising a conference on gender equality in research and innovation on 23–24 October 2019 in Helsinki. This event marks 20 years since the first European Commission Communication on Women in Science and the follow-up founding of the Helsinki Group on Gender in Research and Innovation, which launched the EU action in this area.

The Commission is today revealing the first ever image of a black hole taken by Event Horizon Telescope, a global scientific collaboration involving EU-funded scientists. This major discovery provides visual evidence for the existence of black holes and pushes the boundaries of modern science.
