FrailSafe will combine state of the art information technologies and data mining techniques with high-level expertise in the field of health and ageing. The project is funded by the European Research programme Horizon 2020 and will last three years.
ICT Research & Innovation
On 10-11 May 2016 in its Headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, ETSI will hold a workshop on the subject “From Research To Standardization” in the context of the EU's H2020 programme.
The workshop will support researchers in disseminating and exploiting their results through ICT standardisation. It serves as a platform for research consortia to be informed about standardisation plans and to address a wider community to find supporters and allies.
The coordination action EXDCI - European eXtreme Data and Computing Initiative - will host the first edition of European HPC Summit. The event's programme includes a number of HPC workshops, such as EXDCI workshop, PRACEdays16, and the ETP4HPC Workshop, and several other private meetings and events. Register before 29 April 2016.
Computing is changing with an increasing number of data-intensive critical applications. By 2020, 25 billion devices will be connected, generating over 2 zettabytes of traffic yearly. To face these growing needs, the EU aims to see a supercomputer based on homegrown technology among the world top three by 2022.
Participate in the first outdoor challenge of soft robots in terrestrial locomotion, underwater exploration and dextrous manipulation, and win a €5000 prize. The call for expression of interest closes on 31 October 2015 (extended deadline).
The Discognosis project developed a tool (the LabDisk) that can diagnose malaria and other febrile infectious diseases simultaneously in just an hour – allowing faster point-of-care treatment and precise drugs administration that could save thousands of lives.
This year, the theme of the week is "Trends, Applications and Challenges of Soft Robots”.
ICT4Life is a three-year project co-financed under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, that kicked off earlier this year with the ambition to provide new services for integrated care employing user-friendly ICT tools, ultimately increasing patients with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other dementias and their caregivers’ quality of life and autonomy at home.
The Active and Assisted Living Programme, in cooperation with the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, will organize a workshop in Rome within the framework of the “ICT4AWE 2016” international conference. The workshop will be an opportunity to present the 2016 AAL call, which will focus on “Living well with dementia” and the experiences of some European Regions in programming, funding and implementing ICT solutions for active and healthy ageing.
This edition of the FET Newsletter brings the latest news on Future and Emerging Technologies research, projects, funding opportunities in 2016 and it reports on workshops & conferences and future events.
The European Commission has launched two Horizon prizes to identify breakthrough ideas that could drastically reduce air pollution caused by transport.
The Commission presented on 19 April its blueprint for cloud-based services and world-class data infrastructure to ensure science, business and public services reap benefits of big data revolution.
Transport Research Arena (TRA) is the most important Transport research event in Europe, gathering every two years key stakeholders: researchers, experts, operators, industry and policy-makers.
#TRA2016 Conference will contribute to innovation in sustainable mobility for Europe, by bringing together all the stakeholders of the transport system.
How will the upcoming calls under the European Research Infrastructures (including e-Infrastructures) part of the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2016-2017 support the European Open Science Cloud? Find out more by participating to our Information Day on 15 April 2016.
In a blog post, Thierry Van der Pyl, Director "Excellence in Science" at the European Commission, highlights significant milestones passed by both FET Flagship projects. At the end of March the Human Brain Project (HBP) consortium released the first version of its six ICT Platforms. The Graphene Flagship started a new operational phase under Horizon 2020. At a kick-off seminar, 6 Partnering Projects for HBP and 13 for the Graphene Flagship are being presented.
Europe has the competence and skills to engage in the global competition towards Exascale Supercomputing. To fully benefit from the opportunities of the digital single market, Europe must strengthen the fundamental research on which digital transformation is based and build a stronger European High Performance Computing (HPC) ecosystem.
For Horizon 2020, the Commission has a legal obligation to monitor continually and systematically its implementation, to report annually and to disseminate the results of this monitoring. The first Annual Monitoring Report under Horizon 2020 is a comprehensive publication encompassing the analysis of Horizon 2020 through its calls closed in 2014
Six internationally renowned artists will over nine months closely collaborate with EU-funded FET-projects in areas such as quantum physics, supercomputing, robotics and life sciences.
