Regional EURATOM Brokerage Event and Info Day

The Polish National Centre for Nuclear Research, in partnership with the National Contact Point, invites you to a Regional EURATOM Brokerage Event and Info Day which will take place in Warsaw on Friday, 8 April 2016.

The goal of this meeting is to foster the participation of organizations from the Visegrad and Baltic regions in EURATOM projects for the WP2016-2017 call.

Nuclear energy network works to improve safety

National nuclear energy authorities, operators and researchers continue to collaborate on developing better prevention and mitigation strategies for severe accidents through a network developed by the EU-funded SARNET2 project.

New tools make solar power more attractive to business

EU-funded researchers have developed and patented tools to make photovoltaic generation more reliable, cost-effective and easier to integrate into the grid, providing a boost to solar power SMEs and helping to make sustainable energy more attractive to businesses and end users. Commercial spin-offs are marketing the results in Europe and beyond.

Results of ongoing EU funded pre-commercial procurements (PCPs)

Interesting data is available about the results of ongoing PCPs funded by FP7. Data shows first impacts on opening the market for new players, creating cross-border growth opportunities for companies, bringing research results to the market and contribution to growth and job creation in Europe.

130M euro of EU funding for innovation procurement in 2016-17 - don't miss the open PCP call

H2020 provides 130M euro funding for innovation procurements in 2016-17 across several areas: Research Infrastructures, ICT, Health, Security, Energy, Transport, Space and Climate Change/Environment.

Get ready to submit your proposal to the next call: the "open" PCP call (deadline 12 April 2016). It finances 90% of the coordination and procurements costs for pre-commercial procurements (PCP) in "any" domain of public interest that requires ICT based solutions.

Tomorrow's grid for low-carbon energy

Could Europe's economy reduce its CO2 emissions by 95% by 2050? An EU-funded project has predicted how an integrated smart grid could evolve by 2050, supporting greater use of green power and a secure, reliable energy supply.

Open consultation on the next FET Proactive Horizon 2020 Work Programme

Do you have a great idea for a future technology, far beyond what is currently possible? Could it become real if Europe's best minds were put on the task? Share your views and contribute to the identification of the themes of tomorrow's FET Proactive programme. The consultation is open until 30 April 2016.

The hunt for supercritical water heats up

Breakthrough technologies developed by the EU-funded project DESCRAMBLE could allow Europe to exploit geothermal energy more efficiently and in more locations than is currently possible. The aim is to increase use of this renewable, clean energy source and reduce Europe's dependence on imported fossil fuels.

FET Open and FET Proactive info day

The Research Executive Agency (REA), in cooperation with the EC's DG for Communications Networks, Content & Technology, is organising an Information Day on the calls for proposals to be launched in 2016 by the Future and Emerging Technologies Open (FET Open) and the topic ‘Emerging themes and communities’ of the FET Proactive schemes.

Biomass for energy: from field to fuel

Agricultural, forestry and residential waste can provide fuel for transport, heat for homes and electricity for businesses, reducing Europe's dependence on imported fossil fuels and lowering green house gas emissions. EU-funded researchers are overcoming challenges to making residual biomass a technically viable and cost-competitive source of renewable energy.

Exa2Green FET project: new paradigms for "green" supercomputing

With today’s technology, supercomputers of the future would consume the amount of energy needed to power a little town. To allow the further development in exascale supercomputing without that extremely energy-intense trade-off, Exa2green developed a set of energy efficient High-Performance Computing (HPC) components, tools and algorithms.

Cleaner energy from coal

Europe still depends heavily on coal, despite the strides made in developing renewable energy sources. To use this coal more wisely, an EU-funded project investigated a resource-saving way to access more coal while cutting the CO2 it releases into the atmosphere.

Horizon 2020 Energy Efficiency Info Day

On 8 December 2015 the Executive Agency for SMEs (EASME) is organising an information day on the calls 2016 under Horizon 2020 Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy Societal Challenge.

Commission launches fusion research Innovation Prize

The European Commission is launching today the second edition of the "SOFT Innovation Prize" for fusion research. Proposals can be submitted concerning any physics or technology innovations related to magnetic confinement fusion research with a potential for further exploitation.

Info Day on Smart Cities & Communities - Horizon 2020 Work programme 2016-2017 ‘Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy’

The event targets potential applicants to the calls for project proposals under the 'Smart Cities & Communities topic' of the Horizon 2020 Work programme 2016-2017 ‘Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy’. Presentations will cover the Smart Cities & Communities part of the Work Programme for 2016-2017 and the application procedure, as well as detailed information on the calls. Participants will have numerous networking opportunities throughout the day.

Assessing the alignment of investment portfolios with climate goals: join the road show!

Institutional investors have a new benchmarking tool to assess to which extent their portfolio is in line with the investments required to limit global warming to 2°C, based on its exposure to different energy technologies. The tool is developed by the Sustainable Energy Investment Metrics (SEI Metrics) project. The draft version of the benchmarking framework is currently limited to power and road transport, with non-road transport coming next.

Seaking an energy revolution for boats on the high seas

When a boat pitches in waves, it creates inertial energy. The EU-funded SeaKERS project developed the tools to harness this renewable energy for charging yacht batteries. The project team is now planning to commercialise its invention.
