Regional transport
Data are available at different regional levels, the most detailed is level 2 of the nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS).
Available indicators
The following information is available in the database:
- transport infrastructure, such as the length of road, railways, and inland waterways
- vehicle stock
- road accidents
- transport flows through seaports, airports, inland waterways, and railway.
Data sources and frequency
Data come from 2 different sources:
- voluntary regional data collection
- data collections based on legal acts for the maritime, air, inland waterway, and rail data.
The voluntary regional data collection is based on an annual questionnaire, which is sent to the countries. This annual data collection covers infrastructure, vehicle stock, and road accidents. It was first launched in 2002 in the EU and candidate countries. Since 2007, it also includes EFTA countries. The questionnaire is based on the definitions and concepts of the glossary for transport statistics.
Data releases
Data are published annually approximately 14 months after the end of the reference year.
