In June 2018 compared with June 2017, 4.8 million fewer nights (-1.5 %) were spent in tourist accommodation in the European Union (see Figure 1 and Table 1). This decrease, which was observed in 14 out of 27 EU Member States for which data are available, was more due to residents (domestic tourists travelling inside their own country of residence) who spent 4.1 million fewer nights (-2.5 %), than to non-residents (inbound tourists) who spent 700 000 fewer nights (-0.5 %). Euro area annual inflation was 2.2 % in October 2018, up from 2.1 % in September 2018.

A total of 432 thousand students from abroad (26 % of the total number of students from abroad in the EU-28) were studying in the United Kingdom in 2016, far more than the number in any other EU Member State. Italy had a share of 15.0 % in extra-EU imports of crude petroleum and natural gas (see Figure 4). It was one of five countries with double-digit shares. The other four were Spain, the Netherlands (both 12.3 %), the United Kingdom (11.7 %) and Germany (11.3 %).
For seven Member States, crude petroleum and natural gas made up more than one fifth of their total imports of goods from outside the EU. These were Lithuania (46.6 %), Greece (35.9 %), Portugal (32.8 %) , Bulgaria (25.0 %), Finland (24.2 %) , Spain (22.3 %) and Italy (21.4 %). Shares below 5 % were recorded in Belgium (4.3 %), Ireland (3.6 %), Estonia (3.4 %), Malta (2.6 %), Slovenia (1.2 %), Cyprus and Luxembourg (both 0.0 %). For the whole EU the share was 12.3 %.
