Even when we are not paying attention, statistics are a constant part of our lives, and they are a crucial means to gain deep and reliable insights into how we live. On 20 October, Eurostat will celebrate European Statistics Day with this year’s motto ‘official statistics - a window for understanding society’.

High-quality official statistics play a critical role in policy-making. And more than ever before, they play a part in our daily lives. Throughout our lives and with all the hard choices that one needs to make along the way, Eurostat has the information to power citizens’ and governments’ evidence-based decisions. Eurostat has harnessed the full potential of the digital age, adjusted to rapid change to not only include new tools, new data and new technical capabilities but it is also responding to emerging needs and trends.

We invite you to visit our new publications, Key figures on Europe -2024 edition and Key figures on European living conditions, and learn more about recent developments across the EU and how its people live. For example, did you know that the fertility rate in the EU in 2022 was 1.46 births; or that 61% of the students in general upper secondary education in 2022 were learning 2 or more foreign languages? Or even that the overall life satisfaction among people aged 16 or over in 2023 was 7.3 on a scale from 0 to 10?
