The Conference of European Statisticians
The Conference of European Statisticians (CES) met in Geneva on 15-17 June 2015 and gathered Chief Statisticians from 60 countries and 20 international organisations and academia. Among many other topics on the agenda, the discussions fed into two thematic seminars on:
- The response by official statistics to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and
- The modernization of statistical production as a necessary condition for data revolution.
The Plenary session of the CES adopted a declaration on the role of national statistical offices in measuring SDGs. The declaration acknowledges official statistics as a crucial element in the SDG information system and highlights the role of national statistical offices as providers of high-quality information to support informed decision-making.
The CES also endorsed four guides and recommendations:
- Guide to Measuring Global Production
- Guidelines on Statistical Business Registers
- Handbook on Measuring Quality of Employment
- Recommendations for the 2020 Round of Population & Housing Censuses, prepared in cooperation with Eurostat.
