Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU

As you already know, from 1 July to 31 December 2016, Slovakia holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

 

The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic will chair the meetings of the Council Working Party on Statistics. It will focus on strengthening the confidence in European statistics, harmonisation, as well as the reduction of production costs and response burden. Building on the remarkable progress of the Dutch Presidency, it is expected that the files on Extrastat, transport statistics (rail and inland waterways), as well as electricity and natural gas prices will be finalised.

 

Two new legislative proposals are expected to be adopted by the Commission during the Slovak Presidency: the extension of the European Statistical Programme and a common framework for European statistics relating to persons and households (IESS).

 

Six meetings of the Council Working Party on Statistics have been scheduled – 20 July, 7 and 30 September, 19 October, 9 November and 6 December.
