In 2017, the European Union’s (EU) Member States exported over 7.3 million pairs of skis and individual snowboards. This was 640 000 items less than ten years ago. Over two thirds of these items (4.9 million items, or 67%) were traded within the EU.

Austria accounted for a third of the Member States' exports of skis and snowboards
Across the EU Member States, the largest exporters were Austria (2.8 million pairs of skis and snowboards exported in 2017, or 38% of the total EU Member States' exports) and France (0.8 million items, 11%). They were followed by Bulgaria (666 900 items, 9 %), Germany (615 400 items, 8%), Czechia (612 700 items, 8%) and Spain (544 500 items, 8%).
The United States, main non-EU recipient of skis and snowboards
Exports to non-EU countries amounted to 2.4 million items in 2017. Almost one third of EU skis and snowboards were sent to the United States (747 100 items, or 31% of the total extra-EU exports of skis and snowboards). This was ahead of Norway (346 300 items, 14%), Canada (293 100 items, 12%), Switzerland (280 900 items, 12%), Japan (242 700 items, 10%), Russia (126 500 items, 5%) and China (90 200 items, 4%).
Half of EU's imports of skis and snowboards come from Ukraine
In 2017, Member States also imported 1.6 million skis and snowboards from non-EU countries. Over half of these originated from the Ukraine (818 000 items, 52%), followed by China (428 200 items, 27%), Taiwan (71 000 items, 4%), the United States (50 500 items, 3%) and Switzerland (43 200 items, 3%).
