Maritime transport
Available indicators
The following information is available in the database:
- gross weight of goods, expressed in tonnes
- passenger movements, expressed in number of passengers
- vessel traffic, expressed in number of vessels and in gross tonnage of vessels
- goods in containers, expressed in number of units or number of TEUs (20-foot equivalent units).
These data have been calculated using data collected at port level. The data are available at port level, maritime coastal area (MCA) level, country as well as regional level.
At regional level, data are available for levels 1 and 2 of the nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS).
Eurostat also publishes an annual calculation of transport performance in the waters of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of each reporting country.
Data sources and frequency
Data are collected by national authorities. They use a variety of data sources, such as port administration systems, national maritime databases, customs databases or questionnaires to ports or shipping agents.
Data are provided quarterly and annually.
Data releases
Quarterly data are published no later than 10 months after the end of the reference quarter.
Annual data are published no later than 16 months after the end of the reference year.
