Luxembourg: Men's median salary is 3% lower than women's - European Statistical System (ESS)
STATEC has just published the first results of the survey on the structure of salaries for 2010. The median salary of the full time male workers throughout the year 2010 is with 44 224 euros of 3% lower than the salary of women, 45 767 euros.
This wage advantage is explained by the fact that women work in sectors with higher salaries than men do. Indeed, 26% of women work in education and in financial activities and insurance. Both sectors have the highest median salaries in Luxembourg. Only 15% of male workers are occupied in these sectors. The benefit for women is a result of the fact that the calculations include, for the first time, the public sector (administration and public education).
