President of the Czech Statistical Office passed away - European Statistical System (ESS)

The President of the Czech Statistical Office, Iva Ritschelová, passed away following a severe illness, in the evening of 2 December.  She was 53.

Prof Ing Iva Ritschelová CSc was appointed President of the Czech Statistical Office on 1 September 2010. In her term of office, she promoted a significant modernisation of statistics production processes, including a transition to electronic data collection. She also was active in promoting statistical literacy to the general public.

Professor Ritschelová was an active member of the Czech Republic's academic community and author of many professional publications, mainly focused on environmental economy and environmental policy.She was also a benefactor of the Children's Home in the City of Ústí nad Labem.
