Eurostat is pleased to announce the classification of occupations for online job advertisements challenge (WI CLASSIFICATION CHALLENGE) within the European Statistics Awards Program. The competition aims to stimulate innovation in the area of web intelligence (WI) for statistical purposes. The challenge is part of a program which will run until the end of 2025.

The 2024 round of the Web Intelligence Awards – WI CLASSIFICATION CHALLENGE - will focus on the development of an automated solution to classify occupations described in job advertisements using known taxonomy. You can find more information about the challenge on the statistics awards website.

Registration for the competition will open on 1 June 2024 and close on 15 July 2024. 
Submissions for the Accuracy award will be open until 30 September 2024 and for the Reusability and Innovativity awards until 15 October 2024.

The competition is open to teams of up to five people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines with knowledge of web intelligence. Each team member must meet the contest's eligibility requirements

The contest is a great opportunity to apply your knowledge of web intelligence to a real-world situation and win: 

  • €10 000 for the first place in the Accuracy award
  • €10 000 for the first place in the Reusability award
  • €5 000 for the first place in the Innovativity award.

If you strike first place in all three categories, your team could win up to €25 000.

In this second round of the Web Intelligence Awards, nine prizes will be awarded: 

  • three for Accuracy,
  • three for Reusability, i.e. the solution demonstrating potential to be reused and scaled to regular production,
  • three for Innovativity, i.e. the solution that shows the most innovation in its approach.

In addition, teams will have the opportunity to have their work disseminated via the Eurostat communication channels and may be given a chance to present their solutions at events organised by Eurostat.
