The world of work has changed. 4 out of 10 people in employment work part-time under temporary contracts or are self-employed and new forms of work are growing. In some EU countries these workers are not protected when unemployed, ill, pregnant, old or when having an accident at work. When work evolves, social protection should evolve too, to include all workers. The Council Recommendation on access to social protection for workers and the self-employed contributes to a fairer, more social Europe.
