Preliminary harmonised estimates for life expectancy in 2022 based on weekly deaths data – 2023 edition

Summary
Having timely estimates of life expectancy has proven crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, since 2020 Eurostat has been providing early estimates of life expectancy using weekly deaths data before annual deaths data become available. This paper discusses the methodological approach used by Eurostat, the results obtained for the year 2022 and the accuracy of the previous exercise.
