Let’s celebrate European Statistics Day today with some interesting figures. In 2020, there were 97 300 mathematicians, actuaries and statisticians employed in the EU, the equivalent of almost 22 professionals per 100 000 people. This of course includes the statisticians who calculated this number! More interesting figures on statisticians in the EU can be found in the article ‘European Statistics Day is our day!

This day is celebrated by the national statistical authorities of all the EU Member States, EFTA countries and Eurostat, forming a partnership called the European Statistical System (ESS). Together, we develop, produce and disseminate European statistics.

To mark the occasion, we are holding an open day in the form of a webinar today from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM CET. The open day will feature an overview of official statistics published by Eurostat as well as recent initiatives. You can send your questions via Slido
