Back Population growth about 12 times higher in Africa than in the EU over last 20 years

A recent publication from Eurostat presents a broad comparison of the situation in European and African countries. It focuses on demography, health, education, national accounts, economy and finance, industry and services as well as on external economic relations.

Among many other things, the data show that:

  • In the past 20 years, population growth in African countries has been about 12 times higher than in the European Union
  • Since 2006, economic growth has been much faster in African countries (49%) than in the EU (6%)
  • In less than 10 years, the number of mobile communication subscriptions has almost quadrupled in Africa
