Inflation in the euro area

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 2.0% in October 2024, up from 1.7% in September 2024. Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, services is expected to have the highest annual rate in October (3.9%, stable compared with September), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (2.9%, compared with 2.4% in September), non-energy industrial goods (0.5%, compared with 0.4% in September) and energy (-4.6%, compared with -6.1% in September). Households - statistics on financial assets and liabilities

Total financial assets of households in the EU were valued at €37 264 billion in 2023. This was 3.9 times as high as the value of their financial liabilities that stood at €9 670 billion, resulting in a net difference of €27 594 billion (or 74.1% of the value of the assets). This was lower than the same value in 2022, which stood at €25 309 billion (or 72.6%). The annual rate of change for total financial assets and liabilities of households is presented in Figure 1. Trade and production of hybrid and electric cars

Over several years, between 2017 and 2023, imports of electric and hybrid cars in the EU registered a staggering increase. In 2023, 44% of the total number of cars imported were electric or hybrid, indicating an increase of 37 pp compared with 2017. Full electric cars represented 20% (+20 pp compared with 2017) of total car imports in 2023.
