What is the default navigation tree?

By default, the database is shown in form of a tree in which you can access folders and subfolders. The main themes or folders in this structure are:

  • detailed datasets: contains all data publicly available from Eurostat. They are presented in so-called multi-dimensional datasets.
  • selected datasets: offers a selection of Eurostat data offering less indicators and variables than the detailed datasets. Data are presented in 2 or 3 dimensional tables.

Both of these branches are organised according to 9 statistical themes.

  • tables on EU policy: presents datasets organised according to specific EU policies
  • cross cutting topics: offers a selection of statistical topics that are obtained from different data sources and collections.

You can navigate through the tree and expand or collapse folders and sub-folder by clicking on their titles. In such way, you can drill down until the lowest level which are the datasets.

What is the enhanced navigation tree?

Alternatively, you can enable the so-called enhanced navigation tree by using the slider on top of the default data navigation tree and moving it to the right side:

If the toggle button is moved to the right side and displays a tick mark, this indicates that the enhanced navigation tree is displayed. Moving it to the left side, will disable this view and display again the default navigation tree.

When this enhanced navigation tree is selected by you, the themes are the same as in the default view, however, they are presented using coloured icons, instead of folders.

To select a theme, you can click on the icon or title.

Afterwards, each theme can be further expanded by clicking on the plus icon (+) or the title and be collapsed by clicking on the minus icon (-) or the title.
