Italy promotes ESD - European Statistical System (ESS)
Among the initiatives for the Italian Day of Statistics, the Italian National Institute will launch the ninth edition of the Italian Statistical Olympics, promoted and organized by Istat and Sis (Italian Statistical Society). The Olympics involve upper-secondary school students and are aimed at bringing young people closer to statistical reasoning and to get them aware of the importance of statistics in everyday life.
The Italian competition is the national phase of the European Statistical Competition, promoted by Eurostat. ESC will be held next year and it will be open to students who have passed the national phase.
Both competitions are an important opportunity for cooperation at the national and European level to promote a conscious use of quantitative information among young people.
In addition, Istat makes available a new web application that allows to view the progress achieved by Italy on the objectives of sustainable development (SDGs). Furthermore, the time series of the publication Sixty years of Europe are extended and the publication The life of women and men in Europe in Italian language is updated.
Along with Eurostat, Istat has implemented its web site in order to let some initiatives better known: the link to the new flagship publication ‘Key Figures on Europe’, the retweet of Eurostat's infographics or link to it, the announcement of the Italian statistics olympics and the European statistics competition with an animated GIF, the link to the updated version of ‘The life of men and women in the EU’.
