Logo Statistics ExplainedIn 2016, 152 million tonnes of whole milk was available to the dairy sector and processed. Of this, 37 % (56 million tonnes) was used to produce cheese and 30 % to produce butter, with a further 13 % being used to make cream and 11 % to produce drinking milk.

In 2016, the United Kingdom produced more than one fifth (22 %) of the drinking milk in the EU. France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland together produced 70 % of the cheese manufactured in the EU.
