Paris - the most densely populated EU region

Paris is by far the most densely populated EU region on NUTS3 level, with 21 000 inhabitants per square km. It is followed by the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets (15 000) and Lambeth (12 000). Of the 15 most densely populated regions in the EU, 10 are in the United Kingdom.

The least densely populated region is Lapland (Lappi) in Finland with 2 people per square km, followed by two Swedish regions - Norrbottens län and Jämtlands län -, and French Guiana (Guyane), all with 3 inhabitants per square km.

The average population density in the EU is 117 inhabitants per square km.
