The 2010 Edition of the youth camp ATLANTIS will be devoted to topics regarding social inclusion in the Mediterranean area, because “Social exclusion is a multidimensional process of progressive social rupture, detaching groups and individuals from social relations and institutions and preventing them from full participation in the normal, normatively prescribed activities of the society in which they live”. In order to prevent this, it is important to raise awareness about the dangers of social exclusion and to teach skills that help to overcome the effects of discrimination within communities

The objectives of this news edition of Atlantis are

  •     the promotion of intercultural interaction and partnership between young volunteers
  •     the consolidation of the capacities of the young people participating in order to encourage the implementation of practical actions related to social inclusion
  •     the promotion of new initiatives and creative contributions
  •     the sharing of strategies, good practices
  •     and the acquirement of management skills for better serving local communities and to develop new creative ideas in order to reduce social exclusion in the Mediterranean region

The Centre for the Co-operation in the Mediterranean in partnership with the French Red Cross, is organising the sixth edition of the Mediterranean youth camp Atlantis, which has become a regular meeting point for youth volunteers from the Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies in the Mediterranean.

The Youth Camp will count on the support of the IFRC MENA Youth Network and the firm Abertis.

Location: Grans, Marseille (France)
