Des biens et des services adaptés aux personnes âgées - une opportunité de développement social et économique (Pologne)
L'ampleur du changement démographique auquel les pays de l'UE font face est sans précédent. Le nombre de personnes âgées de 60 ans et plus augmente d'environ 2 millions par an, avec pour conséquence une hausse rapide du taux de dépendance. Si en 2010, il y avait quatre personnes en âge de travailler pour chaque personne de 65 ans et plus, on s'attend à ce que ce ratio baisse de moitié d'ici 2060.

European Public Employment Services study in Germany models to encourage the hiring or retention of older workers
Bundesagentur für Arbeit, the Public Employment Service (PES) of Germany, hosted a Peer Review on Public Employment Services and Older Workers on May 10-11 in Nuremberg. Following this encounter, several European PES expressed an interest in a visit to the Bundesagentur für Arbeit, to gain practical insights into their experience with measures to encourage the hiring or retention of older workers.

Workshops in Greece and Romania to celebrate the European Seniorforce Day
Greece celebrated a Seniorforce Day on October 24th in Athens. During the event, teenagers, university students and older people cooperated in the framework of interactive creative workshops and discussions with the aim to stress the importance of youth volunteer work for dialogue and intergenerational solidarity.

Luxembourg, Austria and Belgium celebrate Seniorforce Days to encourage volunteering and an active retirement among citizens 55+
The seminar “The key to a successful transition to retirement” held on October 13 in Luxembourg, was the frame to celebrate the Seniorforce Day in that country, an event promoted by the European Commission in the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations to encourage senior volunteering.

New Manifesto calls for Quality of Life in Old Age until the End
There is urgency to develop palliative care services for elderly patients, experts say. For this reason, the Vice-President of the European Parliament Gianni Pittella, in collaboration with the Maruzza Lefebvre Foundation, promoted a first ever dialogue between palliative medicine and geriatrics at EU level. The event took place at the European Parliament in Brussels on 25 September 2012.

Senior-related artefacts installed across the Czech Republic invite citizens to ´see´ the elderly
To commemorate the International Day of Older Persons on October 1, and within its programme of activities to support the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, Diaconia ECCB has installed a series of senior-related artefacts across the Czech Republic to denounce a potential neglect of elderly people in our society.
