The German Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organisations (BAGSO) and the Research Association for Gerontology at the University of Technology Dortmunt remarked the positive outcome of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 during the National Closing Ceremony of the Year in Germany, which was held on December 10th in Berlin.

AGE Platform calls authorities to tackle the increasing risk of poverty and social exclusion among older people in Europe
The publication “Older People also suffer because of the crisis” was presented by AGE Platform Europe at the Second Annual Convention of the Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion, which took place on 5-7 December in Brussels hosted by the European Commission in partnership with the Cyprus Presidency.

Berlin receives the European Commission's Access City Award
European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding handed on December 3rd the Access City Award 2013 to Berlin in recognition of its comprehensive and strategic approach to creating an accessible city for all. The award is organised by the Commission together with the European Disability Forum, and was presented on the occasion of the annual European Day of People with Disabilities conference in Brussels.

Les entreprises sociales sont reconnues pour leur capacité à offrir des solutions innovantes pour répondre aux nouveaux besoins sociaux (auxquels le secteur public ou les entreprises privées ont du mal à faire face). En comblant cette lacune, les entreprises sociales créent de nouvelles opportunités de croissance et d'emplois. En effet, elles contribuent à la réalisation d'au moins trois objectifs clés de la stratégie Europe 2020 : emploi et croissance, innovation et lutte contre la pauvreté.

Active Ageing Index 2012 launched in Cyprus at the European Year closing conference
Sweden, Finland and Denmark, followed by the Netherlands, Ireland and the United Kingdom, come at the top of the Active Ageing Index 2012, presented on December 10th in Cyprus at the Closing Conference of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. The index also shows that a majority of the Central and Eastern European countries as well as Malta and Greece have lots of space for improvement when it comes to their active ageing policies.
