A multi-purpose communal kitchen in Lille

In the Fives district of Lille, capital of France’s Hauts-de-France region, the EU-funded TAST’in FIVES project is setting up an innovative communal kitchen to host educational, training and social activities for local people. The project takes an integrated approach involving conviviality, healthy eating, access to jobs and training, and governance and economic sustainability. The aim is to tackle poverty and unemployment, and regenerate an area hard hit by de-industrialisation.

Mentoring Spanish entrepreneurs across borders

As the EU emerges from the financial crisis, unemployment remains high in countries such as Spain. To create jobs and foster successful entrepreneurship there, the EU-funded European Coworkings EOI Programme is funding the education and training of Spanish entrepreneurs in other Member States. Once the course is over, the qualified entrepreneurs will return home to put their new skills into practice, thereby creating jobs and growth locally.

ECOWAVE: Clean, reliable wave energy for Gibraltar, UK

Gibraltar’s location offers significant potential to use renewable energies to meet its growing energy needs and reduce its carbon footprint. The ECOWAVE pilot project developed wave energy devices that successfully generate electricity and connect simply to the grid. A 5 MW onshore wave power station is now planned that will provide the UK territory with 15 % of its electricity.

Activate yourself! Helping people in Katowice find their social and professional footing

The Activate Yourself! project helped marginalised people integrate into social and professional life in the city of Katowice, southern Poland. A total of 839 residents participated, including those living in, or at risk of, exclusion due to unemployment, disabilities, or homelessness.

Improving quality of life with sustainable waste management in Šibenik-Knin County, Croatia

The second phase of a project to establish a comprehensive and sustainable waste management system for Šibenik-Knin County, Croatia has been implemented with EU funding. Construction of the Bikarac waste management centre is the main element of the project. In the second phase, a mechanical biological treatment plant has been built at the centre and two waste transshipment stations have been set up at Biskupija and Pirovac.
